Covered Perfectly here. I am flattered and surprised as hell that this has happened. Along the way I learned a few things.
Here are 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Modeling. It is harder than it looks. Seriously harder. The goal of modeling is to show the clothes at their best advantage. This is done by standing up straight, shoulders back, hips at an angle, chin up, head forward and smile. Then make small adjustments to this pose by moving your hands around and titling your head. Try it. And do this without messing up the outfit or worrying too much about how
you look.
- Then do it 100 more times in 20 different outfits over the next four hours. Time is money when you’ve got a photographer, make-up artist and assistants on the clock. When it is your turn to step in front of the camera, you land on the mark, strike the pose and make the small adjustments with each click of the camera. When given the all clear, race back to the rack of clothes for the next change. Check you hair in the mirror and then back you go in front of the camera.
- The right music makes it easier. At various times during the photo shoots we listened to rap music, bluesy rock and roll or nothing at all. The rap music felt jarring, like someone was yelling at me. No music at all was boring. The music of Marshall Tucker, however, made it easier to stand up straight and smile. I suspect a lot of that had to do with the associated memories of being 21, which warded off the reality of nearing 60 as I posed in front of a camera in really bright lighting.
- A shiny face can ruin everything. No matter how straight you stand up or how perfect the clothes look, a shine on the nose can throw everything off. Fortunately, there is always a make-up artist nearby to fix that. Unfortunately, by the end of the day you will have 3 lbs of powder on your face.
- Fake eyelashes. I felt glamorous with my professionally applied make-up complete with false eyelashes so my wonderful husband took me out to dinner after the photo shoot. We sat outside at a lovely Italian restaurant. Out of nowhere, a breeze caught my hair and blew it over my eyes. As I brushed the hair away, it got tangled with those beautiful, long lashes. As I pulled my hair away from my face, the lashes came with it- and then broke free and landed smack dab in the middle of my linguini con vigole. There is a lesson to be learned there, I am sure of it.
