My Mum's 80th - By Pauline Durban

What an amazing time I had on my recent visit to England for my mum’s (mom’s) 80th birthday.

Firstly, we had a surprise party. My mum thought she was getting together with a few close family members. Instead, all four of her sisters attended with their children and grandchildren. Also, her extended family, my friends, and my sister’s friends attended. One of my friends even flew in from Spain.

My mum had a wonderful time and couldn’t believe how many people came out to celebrate her special birthday.  She looks great without makeup, but she loves having makeup on and I was happy to oblige. Of course I ran out of time and didn't get mine done. Hey, it was  her day!

Of course, one of the highlights of my trip was meeting my new great-niece, Bethany. Here’s a picture of the four generations.

I'm wearing the Peek-a-Boo top and my sister is wearing our little black dress with a Cascading Vest. Unfortunately this particular print is no longer available.

On Sunday, we went for a Chinese buffet, mum’s favorite, with close family. Good food and good company.

Monday, we took the time to rest. I needed to get over my jet lag as I really hit the ground running.

My mum's actual birthday was on Tuesday, to celebrate we took her to the Ritz in London for afternoon tea. We had regular English tea and it was perfect.  There were a variety of finger sandwiches, plus scones with jam and clotted cream (It’s an English thing). The service was outstanding! My nephew is vegan and they totally accommodated him. He was impressed! If you are ever in London, be sure to visit. Make sure you make a reservation as it gets very busy.

The Ritz even supplied a birthday cake

We followed with a walk around London and then it was a train ride back to Essex. It really was a perfect day. My mom loved it, which was the objective.

The remainder of my time was spent visiting with friends and family.

These are three of my oldest and closest friends.
I've been friends with all of them for way over 30 years.

On the final Saturday, I went out with my favorite ex-in-laws to celebrate my ex-father-in-law’s 90th birthday. It was a lot of fun! I always enjoy visiting with them and I’m grateful that I's still part of their family. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures.

The flight home was long and uneventful. I arrived in Los Angeles late last Sunday and had to hit the ground running again. With a few early nights I’m almost back to normal.

I hope you have enjoyed the short version of my trip and the pictures I’ve shared.

Thank you for being part of my journey! Happy Shopping.
