Today I’m going to discuss the pear-shaped body. So what is a pear shape? It’s the opposite of an apple shape

  • Your hips are larger than your bust

  • You usually have a well-defined waist

  • Your legs are often shorter so you need to look for ways to elongate your body

  • Many pear-shaped people have a nice neckline, with slim arms and shoulders

Your goal should be to draw attention to the top part of your body and away from your hips and thighs. Statement necklaces certainly draw people eyes to the top half of your body and will help even out your shape. Even try big earrings. Everything you do is to emphasize the top half of your body. Anything around your neck will help, even a scarf.

Here Colleen is wearing the Cascading Vest as scarf and Ines has it tied high to create bulk on the top half of her body.

Wear bright colors or print tops, make sure they are lighter than your bottoms. Black is best to wear on the bottom half of your body

Boat necks are great for you as they make your shoulders look wider. Scoop necks work too, as do draped necks

Longer tops work as they cover your hips and emphasize the shoulders more. Especially when there is a feature at the neckline, like this zipped top. Don’t wear tops that hit your hips. Go above or below.

Layers work well as they will even out your proportions

A great jacket, cardigan or vest will create horizontal lines to elongate your body. Bulking up your torso with a short jacket will also help even out your body.

If you want to wear a belt to emphasize your waist, make it a thin one. Don’t yell at me, I know that many of us “older” woman want to cover your tummy area. This is for those that don’t. Wear dark colors on the bottom half of your body. Avoid low-waisted, go more for high-waisted pants and skirts. A-line skirts will work for you just make sure it’s dark against the contrast of your bright, lighter or patterned top. A-line dresses will work for you too. I hope this helps.
