Stretching Your Color Palette - Jennifer, A Well Styled Life

Note from Pauline Durban, Founder and President of Covered Perfectly - Jennifer wasn't sure about the olive color when we first talked about it, however; I'm sure you will agree, it looks amazing on her. Sometimes us women over 40 need to experiment with different colors. You just never know how perfect a new color could be for you.

Over to Jennifer...

Last week it seemed that our summer would never end but yesterday we awoke to fog and crisp temperatures. I couldn’t be happier about it. The leaves are turning color and falling plus there’s a crispness in our air that I adore. Looking to push the season ever faster I opted to wear a classic fall color that’s not common for me.

Many women have pigeon-holed themselves into a limited color palette… based on seasonal coloring analysis they had done years ago. If you have warm-toned skin, you must only warm based clothes. The same goes for cool complexions.

I’m here to tell you there are many options which allow you to expand your horizons, in flattering ways. Case in point, me. I have cool coloring with visible pinkness in my complexion. There’s not one speck of warmth in my skin.

My hair has always been solidly ash toned with no gold. My eyes are grayish blue but have a yellow star around the pupil which can make the blue portion appear turquoise, gray or olive…depending on what I’m wearing. I love to experiment with colors that compliment my match natural coloring.

Yesterday I wore this Cross Draped Wrap Top from Covered Perfectly in Olive. At their last photoshoot, I modeled it in all the colors, but olive was my favorite. It’s soft on my complexion and coordinates with denim, black, pink, navy…you name it.

I love that this Cross Draped top is already tacked at the cleavage so when I bend over… I’m not showing everything.

Look at the different tones in your hair and eyes then think about how you can incorporate them into your wardrobe. Even if you color your hair, those tones still count because that’s the color you’re wearing.
Experiment with color combinations to find a balance that looks great on you. Don’t limit yourself to the old fashion color rules because rules are made to be broken and fashion is meant to bring us joy.
